  Editor

Editor question types

• Cannot centre hotspot images.
• The assistant for word-match does not take into account the setting of case sensitivity.

The editor interface

• Setting the default for multiple response to random choice ordering isn't functional.
• The 'align vertically' button (graphic of align vertically button ) is not functional.
• Undo/redo doesn't work for actions or text in tables.
• When the advanced properties are first opened, the "active" property is misaligned with all other properties.
WORKAROUND: Click on another property and then back to the previous property. This will realign the property.
• If you put a non-integer (decimal or text) into an integer only field, an error message will come up that you won't be able to clear without closing the question. This will also happen with error messages that appear because you have put any invalid entry into an attribute.
• The 'input mathematics' box doesn't expand or go full screen.
• Put characters or decimals into an integer field and an error comes up. Then one can't get rid of the error unless one shuts down editor.

Parts and Steps

• 'Delete Part(s)' option in the 'Parts and Steps' menu should say 'Delete selected Part(s) or Step(s)' to include Steps.
• A Step is elected, only when a Part is selected.

return to list

Spell checker

• Spell checker doesn't tell you that it has finished looking at the question or that it hasn't found any errors.
• Spell checker doesn't work in tables.
• If spell checker actually changes words, those changes won't be saved.
WORKAROUND: If you've made changes else where, then the spell checker changes will save OK. Otherwise, make a change to something in the question and save changes. Then you can change the other change back again. This bug will be fixed by the next update.

Opening questions

• If you try to select more than one question in 'File>Open…' using Shift select, the "load" button greys out.
WORKAROUND: Select multiple questions by holding down Ctrl and clicking the questions you need. If the "load" button is still greyed out, ctrl-click the last question selected and ctrl-click it again. The "load" button will be activated.
• If you open questions from Organiser, then open questions from Editor or vice versa, the first set of questions loaded up will have no features available to it e.g. copy, paste, print, add/remove choice. This is because all the buttons grey out.
• If you open a question from Organiser, and then open a new question from editor, then close the new question with changes made, you get an 'Access Violation' message and crashes Editor. This will be fixed by the next update.

return to list

Tables

• Text doesn't always save properly in tables when editing existing questions.
WORKAROUND: Add a character to the question outwith a table, save the question, remove the extra character and save again.
• Tables within questions will not work correctly if you delete the tables column by column. Moreover, to remove a table, you should not remove all rows or columns until there are none left. Instead, move the cursor to the right of the table and press backspace.
• Variables do not always update in 'Your Variables' when they are entered into tables.
WORKAROUND: Enter variable into body text and press update (which should create the variable in 'your variables'). Then delete the variable in the body text and type it into the table. Alternatively, place your cursor in the table cell containing the variable and then click the "update" button.
• Cannot adjust column-widths in one row, if another row contains large image inserted into merged cells.
• Table cells in the part section can only be filled with colour once each time they are opened up.
• Buttons for setting text-style are sometimes greyed out, when multiple cells in a table are selected.
WORKAROUND: always select cells in a table from left-to-right.

  Organiser

Organiser interface

• When you edit a question, and return to organiser, the list of questions is randomly reordered.
• The print option in organiser isn't functioning at present.
• Columns will show they are sorted in the title of the column, even when the information is not sorted.
• Highlighting a question and then clicking on a column header loses the highlighting.
• Vertical list in the view menu actually lists icons horizontally and vice versa.

return to list

New databases and login

• An attribute called '_PARENTNODE' appears the first time you open a new database. This is an internal code and should be ignored as it disappears after the first time of access and causes no harm to the database.
• When connecting to a database, if the path does not contain a database then a new database is created without asking the user.

return to list

Question locking and sharing databases

• It is possible to change the name of a question when someone else is editing it. Make sure that no one else is editing a question when you try to change its name.

return to list

Copying questions

• You can only copy one question at a time.
• If you copy a question in all unallocated questions and you cannot refresh to show the copied question.
WORKAROUND: Go into another folder and then go back into all unallocated questions.

return to list

Deleting questions

• Questions can be deleted permanently from 'folder by query' folders. Questions should only be deleted permanently from 'all unallocated questions'.

return to list

Exam set-up

• The assist button for queries is not functional.
• The number in Global Threshold in Feedback in exam settings divides itself by 100 every time you go into exam settings. However, the advice does get triggered when you get fewer marks than the global threshold percentage you originally entered.
• The exam name can be changed in the exam settings but is only refreshed when going to another exam and pressing refresh.

return to list

Referencing questions

• When removing the reference to a group of questions, it only asks you if you are sure you want to remove reference to the first selected question. However, reference is removed to all the selected questions.
• Creating a new folder and then creating a reference to it, the plus sign on the original does not appear until you click on the root folder, similarly when the new folder is deleted the plus sign disappears after the root folder has been clicked.

return to list

Attributes

• With new questions, creation date is actually the date it was last modified.

return to list

Exporting

• Transferring directly to the A:\ causes an error message and can't be done. Instead, transfer to a different location on your computer and copy the resulting database to the A:\ drive
• If you transfer to the same database, you get the following error message: An Unknown error has occurred: "Catastrophic failure"
• If the wrong password is entered for an existing database - error message: An Unknown error has occurred: "Catastrophic failure"
• Last 2 options in Transfer dialogue box are not functional.
• Transferring from the root does not transfer all unallocated questions or all unallocated exams.
• Exams transferred from root go into all unallocated exams of new database.

  Examiner

Examiner

• Multiple access violations when examiner comes across a question with unassigned variables. Users should always check questions in 'try-out' to ensure that randomisation doesn't cause errors.

  Server software

Service Manager - messaging

• The check code for seeing if the deactivation time is greater than the activation time is incorrect. It appears to be checking only the hours, minutes or seconds to check that the deactivation time is greater than activation time. However, it should be checking the combination of hours, minutes and seconds.

  Other issues

Saving problems

· Creation dates keep updating when questions are edited and resaved from opening them from Organiser.

return to list

Printing problems

· Can't cancel printing a question if you have not previewed.
· Font emphasis does not appear on printouts.

return to list

Windows problems

· DALI and DALIBackend (2 programs associated with i-assess) hang when an access violation appears in either Editor or Organiser which may cause problems when you shut down your PC.
WORKAROUND: Locate the i-assess database server icon
(graphic of database server icon ) in the taskbar, right-click it and choose "Force Shutdown". Then either press CTRL-ALT-DEL (for Windows 95 and 98 users) or go to Task Manager (for Windows NT, 2000 and XP users (right-click on the task bar at the bottom of the screen and select Task Manager)), close the processes DALI.exe and DALIBackend.exe (although DALIBackend.exe shouldn't be in the process list if you perform "force shutdown"), and then shut down your PC.
